Spring is the perfect time to explore the now legendary Michigan’s Dragon at Hardy Dam, a 45-mile adventure looping around scenic Hardy Pond in beautiful Newaygo County. As the forest wakes up from winter, riders are treated to the first glimpses of budding greenery, the song of birds celebrating the return of spring, and of course an expertly designed trail experience that make every mile feel like a discovery.
Winding through both Newaygo County and Mecosta County, The Dragon is a not-to-be-missed trail system designed for adventure. Expect sweeping lake views, flowing singletrack, sturdy bridges, wooden boardwalks, rock-armored sections, and scenic overlooks along the way. The trail is divided into 11 segments, allowing riders and hikers to choose anything from a quick out-and-back ride to a full-day excursion around the reservoir.

After a day on the trail, you won’t have to travel far to relax and recharge. Campers will find several campground sites located near trail access points around Hardy Pond, offering everything from rustic tent camping to full-service RV sites. Dragon Base Camp (pictured above) offers a unique experience right off the trail.
Prefer a comfortable room after a long ride? If a hotel room is more your speed, lodging is available close-by at the Trailside Motel in White Cloud, the Muskegon River Inn in Newaygo, or a little further in Fremont is the popular Harrington Inn.
