Are you up for an adventure? The Newaygo County Tourism Council is excited to launch our 2021 Exploring Challenge. With over 120 activities such as photograph a barn, visit a farmers market, explore The Hardy Dam Rustic Trail or go stargazing, this is sure to keep you occupied this Spring! Explore the Arts

Experience Newaygo County’s rural sophistication with the many public art exhibits, local artisans and galleries.  Exhibits change monthly at The Arts Place, and your spirits will surely be lifted as you surround yourself with art.

ORV/ATV Adventure

Whether you prefer to jump on a quad, dirt bike or side by side, Newaygo County has options for you!  The Michigan Cross Country Cycle Trail in White Cloud is perfect for 2 wheel vehicles with over 16 miles to ride in Newaygo County, connecting to other regional trail systems.  Other ORV/ATVs are welcome on any of Newaygo County’s maintained roads and at White Cloud County Park and Diamond Lake Park.

Fly Fishing

Choose your own adventure with one of Newaygo County’s two incredible rivers.  The Mighty Muskegon attracts fly fishing enthusiasts from across the nation, searching for Brown and Rainbow Trout trailing behind spawning Steelhead.  The Muskegon River boasts several public access points to start your journey. Pack your gear and grab some bait at Parsley’s Sport Shop in Downtown Newaygo.  The White River, designated as a natural river by the DNR, flows through White Cloud and Hesperia, a true hidden treasure in Newaygo County.  The cool water brings anglers for salmon, trout, and steelhead. This shallow river makes wading effortless while casting for the trout as they feed off the emerging stoneflies. Stop by Hesperia Sport Shop to get the latest fishing report and supplies.

Mushroom Hunting

Almost as elusive as Big Foot, the Morel mushroom poses a challenge for even the most experienced hunter. After a warm spring rain is a great time to head into the woods, walk slow and keep your eyes down.  Once you find your treasure, be sure to leave the root down for regrowth. Visit 37 North for some waterproof gear to make your foraging adventure more comfortable.

This blooming sanctuary is the only wildflower sanctuary in the National Forest System and boasts more than 150 species of plants, wildflowers, trees & vegetation.  Enjoy a self-guided tour along the 1.5 mile trail.  Extend your adventure with the picnic area available at the trail access point. Spring can be a messy time to hike, but several of our trails remain open for your enjoyment.  Hoping to avoid the mud all together? Try Fremont’s Town & Country Path for a mostly paved experience.  Looking for nature, but don’t want wet boots? The Coolbough Natural Area trail has several boardwalks to help avoid the mud. Going all-in for a rustic experience?  The North Country Trail has dozens of miles to choose from.
