Meet Annie Trapp, Linda Trapp, Kathy Broome & pup Novalee, all residents of the White Cloud area. They enjoy hiking the North Country Trail as a trio in their spare time. I caught up with these ladies to ask how this year has been going so far…So far in 2021 they have logged 50 miles and they have seen zero snakes so far!
When did you start hiking?
Annie Trapp- We started avidly hiking together the last couple of years. My mom Linda Trapp has finished the NCT Hike
100 challenge every year since 2015.
Favorite trail/area to hike?
Annie & Trapp: The most unique part of the NCT my mom and I have hiked it the 5 mile stretch a
cross the Mackinaw Bridge. We walk “hike” it as a family every Labor Day being it is the ONLY day you are aloud to hike over it.
Kathy: favorite place is High Banks Lake, Bridge over Cole Creek, or Manistee River south of Mesick
Gear you never leave home without?
Kathy never leaves home without her walking stick.
What kind of shoes to you wear?
We are all fans of the Merrell Trail Runners
Longest hike to date?
We average around 6 miles every time we hit the trails
Any advice for beginners?
Best advice is GO – just to get out there and do it! It’s so freeing and time in nature and fresh air is addicting!
Do you have trail names?
We don’t have trail names…YET…Check back LOL
FUN FACT: Kathy Broome’s mom Virginia Wunch was a huge part of the NCT in the county in the early years.
