Wander in the Woods
Once all of the gifts have been checked off of your list, you’ll be ready for some “me time”. A walk in the woods is a great way to get some fresh air and reconnect with nature. Wherever you are in the county, you are sure to find a perfect trail to explore. Here are some of our favorite spots for a casual hike.
Branstrom Park – Found along the Fremont Town & Country Path, Branstrom Park is a 100-acre park that features a playground, pavilion, a short, looped hiking trail, and even a 24-hole disc golf course. In the winter months a skating rink welcomes ice skaters and hockey players, as well as trails for snowshoers and cross-country skiers.
Welcome Center Loop – This looped trail is approximately 2 miles long and takes about 45 minutes to complete. It’s just the perfect spot for a short afternoon wilderness escape.
Loda Lake – The area consists of small lake, a marsh and wooded area. Although know for the beauty and diversity of its wildflowers in the warmer months, this 1.5-mile trail is still a great destination for wintertime exploration.
Give an Experience
Sometimes the best gifts aren’t really things, but instead experiences. Think about the last time that you were able to get away for a few days to enjoy the outdoor splendor of Northern Michigan. Maybe you went hiking or biking. Or maybe you were here to get out on the water or spend a day on the beach. This year consider giving the gift of NewayGo County. Plan a trip for your loved one or buy a gift certificate and let them decide how to build an adventure. Either way your gift will create memories to last a lifetime. Start planning today!
