A Quaint Town & Country Path

A Quaint Town & Country Path

Fremont has long been known as the Baby Food Capital of the World and attracts thousands of visitors to Gerber’s popular National Baby Food Festival in July. Visitors also come to enjoy Fremont’s Harvest Festival, nearby woods and lakes, and the Fremont Town & Country Path.

Under the development over the past 14 years, the Fremont Town & Country Path skirts much of the picturesque down-town area and connects with several city parks. It currently includes 5.5 miles of paved path with future plans for 20 miles of non-motorized recreational path connecting the City of Fremont, Dayton, Sherman and Charter townships, and encircling Fremont Lake.

Most of the completed trail is off road with a 10-foot-wide asphalt surface. One mile of the path follows streets with designated bicycle lanes and Town & Country Path signs marking the way. Highlights of the trail include wildlife sightings, such as deer and fox in Branstrom Park and lovely scenery as you travel along ravines and wooded areas, over bridges, and past cornfields, parks and ponds.

Trailheads for the Fremont Town and Country Path include Brandstrom Park, Fremont Lake Park and the Locust Street staging area. Fremont Lake Park, located off South Lake Drive and West Lake Drive, includes a campground, swimming area, ice cream shop, restrooms, picnic area and a boat launch.

Trail supporters and community leaders envision a day when the Fremont Town & Country Path will connect to the Berry Junction Trail and the Musketawa Trail to the west and the Fred Meijer White Pine Trail State Park to the east.

The Fremont Town & Country Path offers a healthy, refreshing way to explore this historic town and scenic Fremont Lake. It is also an inviting way to bring people downtown from the surrounding community and lakeside cottages. Downtown Fremont offers lodging and plenty of eating and shopping establishments.
